Ein el-Hilweh Refugee Camp: A Photo Essay
Ein el-Hilweh is the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon located on the outskirts of the southern Lebanese city of Sida, home to more than 80 000 Palestinian refugees originally displaced through the creation of the state of Israel in 1948. Palestinian refugees in Lebanon live as second-class citizens, without the right to work, the right to own property and without freedom of movement, as camps like Ein el-Hilweh throughout the south of Lebanon are surrounded by Lebanese military check-points. On Friday July 1st, Indymedia Beriut organized a delegation to the Palestinian refugee camp of Ein el-Hilweh in southern Lebanon, to conduct interviews and document the current condition within Ein el-Hilweh. Photos in this gallery were taken by Sawsan Kalache, Afamia Kaddour & Stefan Christoff.
