Occupation : Tear up Quebec Israel Bilateral Accord!

On 15 January 2009, the 20th day of Israel's overwhelming assault on Gaza, Montrealers occupied the office of the Economic Minister of Quebec, Raymond Bachand, to demand that Quebec withdraw from the QC-Israel Free Trade agreement. Minister Bachand signed the bilateral economic accord with Israel in the fall of 2008 without any regard for the growing international campaign of boycott against Israeli apartheid or Israel's numerous violations of international law.

The bilateral accord establishes unconditional economic ties between the two countries, failing to include measures to hold Israel accountable to international law.

Providing economic backing and diplomatic cover for Israel, the agreement thus effectively makes Quebec complicit in Israel's apartheid system and the war crimes that Israel is currently committing in Gaza, which have left over 1000 Palestinians dead, including 300 children, and more than 5000 injured.
