In Montreal, migrants and their allies gathered at the Centre de prevention de l’immigration, the Laval immigration detention center, on November 10-11, to stand in solidarity with all those detained as part of the growing efforts to fortify borders.

The action began with a rally at Atwater Parc in downtown Montreal. Speakers denounced the Quebec government agenda to bring in 55,000 new immigrants when many are already in the country rotting in detention or forced to live underground.

Rally
Unlike detentions in criminal proceedings, migrants are held without charge for indefinite periods of time, detained not for an act that they’ve committed, but for who they are: migrants.

No Border Camp Banner
