Shared struggles from Iran to Canada
An evening of food, music, dance and poetry was organized by the Iranian Women’s Association and Solidarity Across Borders to raise legal costs for an Iranian refugee's struggle against deportation.
The event was a fundraiser for a woman who is fighting Immigration Canada to stay here in Montreal, amongst her family and friends, against a risk of unjust imprisonment, torture, or death.
After several frustrating and stressful years of wrestling with the Canadian immigration system, her legal fees have piled up to nearly ten thousand dollars. On top of the patriarchy, racism and injustice she has suffered in both Iran and Canada, this is not a burden she or anyone else should have to carry on their own.
The injustice and cruelty of the Canadian immigration system is daunting and isolating to individuals who are caught in it. The evening was organized to help break the isolation and disempowerment in the fight for Status For All!
